Take the 2-minute calibration in Humanize Like Me. It shows two versions of a sentence ten times, and you pick the one that sounds more like you. Your picks set sentence length, formality, contractions and rhythm on a visible, editable voice card. Free, no sign-up.
How the calibration works
- You see two versions of the same idea, one short and punchy, the other longer and more formal.
- Pick the one you'd actually write. If neither, pick the closer one.
- Repeat for 10 rounds. Each round tests something different: length, contractions, formality, word level, punctuation, rhythm.
- Your voice card appears with sliders already set. Adjust anything that feels off.
Why choosing beats describing
Ask someone how they write and they'll say “clear and professional”. That tells a tool nothing. Show them two sentences and they know instantly which one they'd never send.
Picking is faster than typing out a description, and it works for people who haven't written much in English yet.
When to use calibration instead of samples
| Your situation | Best way in |
|---|---|
| You have 150+ words of your own writing | Paste or upload it |
| You have no samples, or only AI-written ones | Calibration |
| English is your second language | Calibration, then the short form |
| Starting a new job or brand voice | Short context form |
Make it sharper later
Calibration gives you a good first card in about 2 minutes. When you've written something real, paste it in and the card tightens up. You can keep both and compare.
Questions people ask
How long does voice calibration take?
About 2 minutes. It's 10 rounds, and each is a single choice between two sentences. There's nothing to type and no account to create. Every round is one tap on one of two sentences, so most people finish it in about the time it takes to make a coffee.
Is the calibration accurate without any writing samples?
It gets you close. Ten choices set the main sliders reliably, but a card built from your own text catches finer habits like signature phrases. Many people start with calibration and add samples later.
Can I redo the calibration?
Yes, as often as you like. It's free and doesn't count against your daily rewrites or sentence tweaks. Redoing it simply replaces the sliders on that card. Redoing it never touches your other cards, and a card you built from pasted writing stays as it was.
What does the calibration actually measure?
Sentence length, formality, contractions, vocabulary level and rhythm, plus punctuation preferences. The result is a normal voice card, so you can see and edit every setting it chose. The result is a normal voice card, so every setting is open to edit afterward.
Does calibration cost anything?
No. It's part of the free tier, with no sign-up. The free tier includes 1 voice card. Plus adds up to 3. The free plan includes 1 voice card, so calibrate once and keep it, or paste your writing in later to sharpen it.
Does the calibration send my answers anywhere?
Your picks stay in your browser and build the card there. Nothing is sent to an AI provider until you run a rewrite. Nothing is stored on our servers or sent to an AI provider at this stage, and you can clear your browser data to remove the card.
