30-second voice test
What's your writing voice? Find out in 8 taps
Pick the sentence you'd actually send, eight times, or paste something you wrote. You get a 4-letter voice type, the famous writer you sound most like, a share image, and a Voice ID that makes ChatGPT and Claude write like you.

Which would you actually send? — The trip moved
Take the free 30-second voice test on Humanize Like Me: pick between two sentences eight times. It turns your picks into a Voice ID, a short style guide you paste into ChatGPT's custom instructions or Claude's personal preferences, so drafts start in your sentence length, tone and punctuation.
How the voice test works
- You see two ways to say the same thing, like “Moved to Friday. Still in?” or “The trip got moved to Friday, so let me know if you can still make it.”
- Tap the one you'd actually send. First instinct is the right one.
- After 8 taps you get your voice type (a 4-letter code like SCPD), your two most visible habits, and the famous writer whose style yours is closest to.
- No time to tap? Paste 30+ words you wrote, like a text or a work message, and the test reads your voice from that instead.
- Copy your Voice ID into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, and save the result as a voice card for rewrites here.
The four voice types
| Type | Sentences | Tone | Sounds like |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Straight Shooter | Short | Casual | “Moved to Friday. Still in?” |
| The Storyteller | Long | Casual | Talks on the page like out loud |
| The Executive | Short | Polished | Brief, exact, no filler |
| The Professor | Long | Formal | Careful, complete, every clause placed |
Your 4-letter voice code
Your result also names the famous writer whose picks are closest to yours, from Hemingway and Steve Jobs to Jane Austen and Oscar Wilde. It's a playful estimate based on each writer's best-known prose, not a literary analysis.
| Letter | Means | Opposite |
|---|---|---|
| S / L | Short sentences / Long sentences | How much you say per sentence |
| C / F | Casual / Formal | Tone and word level |
| P / E | Plain words / Elevated words | “use” vs “utilize” |
| W / D | Warm (exclamation marks) / Dry (none) | How much energy shows |
What a Voice ID is
A Voice ID is a short, plain-English description of how you write: average sentence length, tone, contractions, punctuation you use and avoid, phrases you actually say, and words you never use. It fits in ChatGPT's 1,500-character custom-instructions box.
AI models write in their own house style by default: long even sentences, em dashes, “delve”, a tidy summary at the end. A Voice ID tells them your style up front, so there's less to fix after. When a draft still sounds off, rewrite it in your voice.
Compare your voice with friends
Share your result and the link carries your 8 picks (and a first name, if you add one). When a friend or coworker takes the test from it, they see a voice match score, from “Total opposites” to “Voice twins”, and exactly which sentences you'd each send.
Teams use it to see who writes alike before splitting up emails and posts. Couples and friends use it because it's fun to find out who's the Straight Shooter.
Why “unlike ChatGPT” matters
Your profile shows how many of your 8 picks differ from what a default ChatGPT draft would pick. The higher the number, the more an unedited AI draft gives you away to people who know how you write: your boss, your clients, your teacher.
Questions people ask
How long does the voice test take?
About 30 seconds. It's 8 taps, each a choice between two short sentences. There's nothing to type and no account to create.
How do I add my Voice ID to ChatGPT?
In ChatGPT, open your name → Personalization → Custom instructions, paste the Voice ID into “What traits should ChatGPT have?” and save. New chats then draft in your voice. You can remove it any time.
Does the Voice ID work with Claude and Gemini?
Yes. In Claude, paste it into Settings → Profile → personal preferences, or into one Project's instructions. In Gemini, create a Gem called “Write as me” and paste it into its instructions.
How accurate is a voice profile from 8 picks?
It's a first sketch: it sets sentence length, tone, contractions, word level, punctuation and rhythm. Paste 150+ words of your own writing later and the card also learns your real phrases and small-word habits.
Which famous writer do I write like?
The test compares your 8 picks with how 13 well-known writers would pick, including Hemingway, Vonnegut, Steve Jobs, Maya Angelou, Lincoln, Churchill, Jane Austen and Oscar Wilde, and shows the closest match as a percentage.
Can I paste my own writing instead of tapping?
Yes. Tap “Or paste something you wrote” on the first question and paste 30+ words. It's read in your browser, never sent anywhere, and turned into the same voice type, famous-writer match and Voice ID.
Will this make AI text undetectable?
We don't promise that. The goal is text that sounds like you, not text that beats a detector. If your school or employer bans AI writing, follow their rules. See our integrity note.
Can I compare my writing voice with a friend?
Yes. Tap “Challenge a friend” on your result and send the link. When they finish the test from your link, they see your voice match score and every sentence where you two picked differently.
Are my answers stored anywhere?
Your picks and voice card stay in your browser. The share link only contains your 8 picks as letters (like “abbaabab”) and a first name if you choose to add one, no text you wrote. Nothing goes to an AI provider until you run a rewrite.
